SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A fire in downtown Suffolk Tuesday morning left one man injured and displaced seven people.

According to a new release from Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink, fire crews responded to a home in the 1600 block of E. Washington Street around 1:44 a.m. after receiving calls for a house fire.

When firefighters arrived they found smoke coming from the single story home and the people who lived there already outside.

The fire was confined to the kitchen and crews brought it under control in about an hour.

Medics took one man to the hospital but he is expected to recover.

The fire displaced three adults and four children who are being assisted by the Red Cross.
