Victim in early morning shooting dies at hospital

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Detectives are investigating a shooting that left a man dead early Sunday morning in Portsmouth.

Detectives have identified the victim as 60-year-old Ronald Lindsey of Chesapeake. Neighbors say Lindsey was a hard-working man who wouldn’t hurt anyone.

“It really shocked me,” said neighbor Trina Smith.

Police say Lindsey was found suffering from a gunshot wound around 3 a.m. outside a shopping center on Victory Boulevard, near George Washington Highway. He was taken to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

“I just talked to him the other day. He just said, ‘Hey neighbor!'” said Smith. “He was just friendly and to see him dead the next day is just devastating.”

Police have not released any suspect information.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers do not have to give their name or testify in court, and they may be eligible for a cash reward.
