Tides win IL South title, lock up playoff spot with win at Durham

DURHAM, NC (WAVY) – With an 8-4 win at Durham, the Norfolk Tides secured their first division title and their first trip to the playoffs since 2005. The Tides plated seven runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Henry Urrutia had two hits in the inning, including a two-run single off of Scott Diamond (11-6) that capped Norfolk’s highest scoring inning of the season.

Norfolk will start a best-of-five-games series with the IL West champion on Wednesday and Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 both games. They’ll travel to either Columbus or Indianapolis (both still in contention for the division title) for the final three games (if necessary).
