VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Thousands of runners are taking to the streets of the Oceanfront to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon & 5K.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon has more athletes participate each year than any other running series in the United States, according to a statement from event organizers, and runners have raised more than $310 million for participating charities shows our heart and soul.

Drivers should expect road closures and detours in the area between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m..

The streets will reopen as soon as the last participant passes the finish line and all course support materials have been removed. Some streets along the earlier miles of the route will open earlier than roads along the end of the route.
