Two fires reported in Portsmouth; no injuries

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Fire officials were kept busy overnight responding to two working fires.

Units were called the the 40 block of Gillis Road for reports of a residential fire.  The fire started a little after 11 p.m.

The home appeared to be vacant, but officials told 10 On Your Side the fire is not suspicious in nature.  The fire started on the first floor and spread to the second floor.

There were no injuries reported.

A second call came in around 3:15 a.m. for a working structure fire at the intersection of Clay Street and Freedom Avenue.

Dispatch said no injuries were reported.  Both the Red Cross and Dominion Power were called to the scene to assist.
