TYRO, Va. (AP) — Police say a Chesapeake man crossed a safety barrier at Crabtree Falls to take a photo before he slipped and fell more than 75 feet.

Nelson County Sheriff’s Lt. Billy Mays tells The News & Advance that 31-year-old Daniel Wayne Kistner died at the scene after falling on Saturday.

Mays says the incident has been ruled an accident.

It’s the second fatal accident in the falls area this year. More than two dozen people have been killed in accidents in the falls area since the U.S. Forest Service began keeping records in 1982.

Crabtree Falls is located in the George Washington National Forest and features a series of cascades that fall a total of 1,200 feet. It’s one of the tallest sets of waterfalls east of the Mississippi River.
