ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) – A two month-long undercover investigation nets nine arrests, $38,540 worth of drugs seized, three hand guns seized, approximately $40,000 worth of assets seized and 39 felony charges.

Sheriff Mark Marshall announced the results of Operation Bullseye during a news conference Monday. The Sheriff said he arrested the target, however would not identify that person.

In all, nine people were arrested on drug distribution charges. Three others are wanted. The men and women range in age from 21 to 43 years old.

“Our investigators as well as the task force were able to identify these people as being principle suppliers here in Isle of Wight,” Sheriff Marshall said.

Of Operation Bullseye, Sheriff Marshall said, “This will lead to bigger and more significant suppliers.”

Sheriff Marshall said heroin is a major problem. So far this year there have been at least two heroin overdoses in Isle of Wight County.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, in 2013, heroin was the number one cause of drug overdoses statewide.

“You’re seeing it region-wide, as well as nationwide. While Isle of Wight County is somewhat rural, we’re certainly not immune from that,” Sheriff Marshall said.

Sheriff Marshall hails Operation Bullseye a success. However, the investigation, potential arrests and prosecution for illegal drugs is far from over.

Only 10 On Your Side was able to record investigators testing drugs confiscated during the operation. While investigators were searching a car during the afternoon news conference, they found drugs hidden in it. Investigators identified the drug as cocaine. It weighed in at 12.75 ounces and has a street value of $20,000.

“This is out here in the country. This is in suburbia America. It is all over the place,” Sheriff Marshall said.
