Tides manager Ron Johnson reflects on milestone

NORFOLK (WAVY) — With the Tides hoping to hang on to first place in the International League South, manager Ron Johnson set a milestone earlier in the month. He won his 285th game as Tides skipper and in doing so, passed Gary Allenson for the most wins in team history.

“It was really exciting,” Johnson said. “You don’t sit around and think about that kind of stuff, but when they started talking about it a month ago, I was hoping, boy I hope we win enough games.”

The Tides awarded Johnson with a custom made belt buckle.

“I’m going to wear it,” said Johnson. “I’ll put that thing on when I get home in the off season and I’ll have that thing on, jump on one of my horses and I’ll be gone.”

The Tides have five regular season home dates left on the schedule.
