Local bail bondsman accused of rape granted bond

Jon Stiffler

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A local bail bondsman accused of raping his client has been granted bond and released from custody.

10 On Your Side’s Jason Marks confirmed Jon Stiffler was granted a $10,000 bond Tuesday morning in Norfolk Circuit Court.

Stiffler is accused of raping a client after he bonded her out of jail a couple of months ago. In June, she allegedly called him from Bedford County, the day before her court date in Virginia Beach, and said she needed a ride back.

In an exclusive interview earlier this month, Stiffler told WAVY News he took the woman to IHOP, bought her something to eat and let her sleep on his couch. Stiffler said he did that because he didn’t want to lose sight of her for fear she would miss court. If that happened, he would owe Virginia Beach $5,000.

However, the woman told police a different story about what happened at his Norfolk home on Simons Drive.

“She is saying that I forcefully brought her back from Bedford County, took her to my residence, where I handcuffed her to the bed all night and raped her repeatedly,” Stiffler said.

Stiffler will have a preliminary hearing Sept. 21.
