NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk family was taken by surprise Friday when they came home to find two men and a woman burglarizing their home.
Homeowner, Ryan Wilke, tells 10 On Your Side’s Andy Fox what happened as he unlocked his front door on Villa Circle. “I saw a shadow movement in that area, so I yelled inside, ‘Hey anybody in there?”
Wilke says police were able to get palm prints off a window and a TV in the home. But thanks to a neighbor’s surveillance cameras, images of the suspected burglars were captured.
“These pictures are good enough that anyone out there who sees these people can recognize them,” said neighbor Nathan Johnson.
It was 12:45 p.m. Friday. Suddenly a gray colored Pontiac pulls up. Two men are picked up on Johnson’s surveillance cameras, and then a woman shows up. All three would be inside Wilke’s home for 30 minutes until Wilke shows up with his two young daughters. He opens the door, sees a shadowy figure in the living room and yells if anyone was in there. At that point, another man comes running down the stairs.
“He came over here and ran out the back door,” said Wilke. “At this point, I chased him. The young man jumped the fence over here. And he was wearing jeans and a T-shirt and I from what I remember he had a box hair cut.”
Wilke runs back to the front of the house. “I noticed that a young woman came down the stairs. I had no idea she was up there. She came running downstairs with a pink Adidas bag, a duffle bag, and she said to me, ‘Don’t hurt me. Don’t hurt me.’ She started running for the back door.”
The female suspect left the house a lot faster than the way she arrived as she’s seen quickly running away.
10 On Your Side asked Wilke and Johnson what they want WAVY to do. Johnson said, “I want you to put the pictures of these people out there…We’re just not going to take it sitting down. It seems the criminals got the upper hand out here,” Johnson said. “We want WAVY to give us the upper hand.”
Wilke added, “Really we just want to see that this doesn’t happen to anybody else.”
Wilke says the burglars got away with a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson and jewelry that was in that duffle bag.
