Local man sentenced to prison for distributing heroin

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — A local man has been sentenced for distributing heroin in Isle of Wight County.

Patrick David Simmons, 27, of Smithfield was sentenced to two years and seven months in the Virginia State Penitentiary.

Investigators say Simmons pleaded guilty to three charges of distribution of heroin and one charge of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school zone.

He was arrested by the U.S Marshalls Service in Poquoson on April 1.

In addition to the prison time, Simmons will face a lengthy period of supervised probation.
