PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office says the investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting outside a Portsmouth Walmart is finished.
The office says it received reports from Virginia State Police and the Medical Examiner’s Office as well as items from the Department of Forensic Science, and is now reviewing the evidence. The CA’s Office will determine if charges are warranted.
William Chapman II was shot outside the Walmart on Frederick Boulevard on April 22. Investigators say he and the officer struggled before the shooting. Chapman was suspected of shoplifting from the store before police arrived.
