Family members and police have identified the victim as 31-year-old Antonio C. Scott, of Portsmouth.

“He didn’t deserve what happened today,” said Scott’s grandmother, Ruby Sparrow.

Scott’s sister, Da’janay Scott Smith, was overcome with emotion as she talked about him.

“He was amazing, like my brother would do anything for anybody … and somebody just took his life, just like that … He just loved everybody, and for him to get his life taken like that, it’s not fair, like it’s just not fair at all,” she said.

Smith said her brother’s daughter was in the home at the time of the shooting.

“His daughter was right there with him, and like, for them to grow up and be like, ‘Where’s my daddy?’ and we got to tell them that they’re not going to see their daddy any more, it hurts. It really does. It really hurts to see my brother gone,” Smith said.

Neighbor Kathy Hogan said it all happened right near her home. “It’s just a sad thing that did not have to happen, and I guess we’re all just wondering what happened, why it happened,” Hogan said.

Police said detectives are still working to determine suspect and motive information.
