PD: Teen took 13-year-old, 9-year-old on joyride

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 14-year-old teen in James City County has been charged after he allegedly took two young girls on a joyride.

Police say an officer noticed a Toyota SUV driving erratically in the area of Old Mooretown Rd and Rt. 199, Monday around 2 a.m.

The vehicle ended up crashing into a drainage ditch nearby. Police say the 14-year-old driver ran away and a 13-year-old and 9-year-old girl were found inside the vehicle.

The girls’ parents were contacted and the 13-year-old girl was treated for minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

The 14-year-old boy was found at home. He was taken into custody and charged with three felonies and one misdemeanor.
