PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — What some people may have considered a joke is costing the city of Portland hundreds of dollars, and law enforcement officials say it could have put lives in danger.
“This is a safety hazard we take very seriously,” Dylan Rivera with the Portland Bureau of Transportation said.
City crews are working to replace the sign.
“This is an unnecessary cost,” Rivera said. “It’s really sad someone would do this kind of thing, something like this is relatively rare and we take it very seriously.”
The person behind the sign switch hasn’t been identified, but they could face criminal mischief charges.
