VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say two people were shot Monday afternoon during a home invasion robbery at the Dove Landing Apartments.

Officers were initially dispatched at 2:06 p.m. for a report of a gunshot wound in the 5600 block of Baker Court, according to Officer James Cason, with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

A man and woman were both found at the scene with gunshot wounds, and both were rushed to a local hospital. Cason said the woman’s injuries were considered life-threatening. Her condition was later changed to stable. The man suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Bryanna Dent lives in the same building where the shooting happened. She was at work at the time, but said she has since learned one of the victims is her neighbor. Dent told WAVY News’ Liz Palka the female victim lives in a ground-level apartment. She added, the male victim is a friend of the people who live in the apartment.

“I am terrified to be out here,” said Dent.

Dent said the situation is terrifying because she doesn’t know if the shooting was a random act or if the victims were targeted.

Residents were initially kept out of the apartment complex, but as of the early evening Monday, all were allowed to return to their homes.

Investigators believe there are two masked suspects, both armed with handguns. They are both believed to be male. Police canvassed the neighborhood looking for information. Police haven’t released information on what, if anything, was stolen from the victims during the shooting.

No further information has been released at this time.
