Police investigating shooting in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A person was shot in Portsmouth Sunday night.

Portsmouth Police confirm that emergency dispatchers received the call for the shooting around 7:19 p.m. Sunday evening.

Officers responded to the 2200 block of Elm Avenue where they found a male with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Detective Holley with Portsmouth Police said the victim was shot in the head.

The victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and has since been released. The extent of his injuries remain unknown.
