Family displaced as a result of house fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A family of three has been displaced after fire broke out inside their home in Chesapeake.

Chesapeake Fire Department officials confirm that crews were called at 8:04 p.m. to respond to the fire in the 400 block of Harbour North Drive.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from a two-story townhouse.

The fire was under control at 8:27 p.m. and crews were able to keep the fire contained to the kitchen.

The remainder of the home sustained smoke damage.

Fire investigators said that it appears the cause of the fire was from unattended cooking.

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross has been contacted to assist the occupants.
