ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Dominion Virginia Power confirms an employee died behind the wheel of a company vehicle in Carrollton Thursday afternoon.

Around 1:30 p.m., the work vehicle came to a stop in some brush alongside Cedar Grove Road, according to Janell Hancock, a Dominion spokeswoman.

Sergeant Michelle Anaya, with Virginia State Police, said the single-vehicle accident happened in the 15000 block. Troopers were called to the scene around 1:50 p.m. and found a 2015 freightliner that had traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Anaya said there was minimal damage to the vehicle, but the 50-year-old male driver was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Richard Davis Wilkins, of Windsor.

Hancock said the people at Dominion are deeply saddened by the news, and around 3:45 p.m. the company was still in the process of contacting next of kin.
