Man stabbed with steak knife at rec center

Search continues for missing boater.

SURRY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a Tuesday morning stabbing at the Surry County Recreational Center.

According to Sgt. Dearyl Anderson, with Surry County Sheriff’s Office, a 47-year-old local man was stabbed with a steak knife around 10:30 a.m., then airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Deputies arrested 34-year-old Kevin Lamont Newby for aggravated malicious wounding and using a knife in commission of a felony.

Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a disagreement the men had several years ago. A rec center employee called authorities to report the stabbing.

Anderson said the victm’s injuries were not life-threatening. Newby was booked into Riverside Regional Jail.
