Nearby shootings leave one man dead, one critically hurt

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police are trying to determine if two shootings are related Sunday after one man was shot to death and another was left critically injured.

Police received an emergency call just after 4:30 a.m. on Bagnall Road near Tidewater Drive and East Virginia Beach Boulevard. Responding officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim in this shooting was 22-year-old Richard Owens, who lived on Bagnall Road. Detectives are still investigating the circumstances around his death.

About 15 minutes later, police responded to another call on East Olney Road, about a quarter of a mile away from the homicide scene on Bagnall Road.

Police say they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and took him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

Police have not released any information on suspects in either shooting.
