Navy Reservist injured in Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police are looking for suspects after a Navy reservist was shot and injured near a party early Sunday morning.

Police responded to the call around 1:00 a.m. on Criston Drive, near Jefferson Avenue and Oyster Point Road.

Officers found a 22-year-old man shot in the leg and groin, according to police spokesman Sergeant Randy Rajkumar.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, but he is expected to survive.

The shot were fired outside of a home during a loud party, Rajkumar said. About 40 people attended, but investigators have not determined whether the shooting victim was one of them, or whether he was the intended target.

The investigation is ongoing and police do not have any suspects. They ask anyone with information to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP
