Va. tourism to air TV ads during Richmond bicycle race

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia tourism officials will use television commercials to promote the state as a travel destination during an upcoming international bicycle race in Richmond.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the partnership Wednesday between the Virginia Tourism Corp. and organizers of the September race. Thirty-second commercials will air on networks broadcasting the UCI Road World Championships.

The commercials will promote travel experiences such as outdoor recreation, beaches, mountains, Virginia wine and oysters.

The race will be held Sept. 19 to 27 and is being held in the United States for the first time since 1986.
