Newport News man accused of molesting girl for two years

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man is behind bars, accused of molesting a young girl on various occasions over a span of two years.

Police arrested Timothy McLean earlier this week in Hampton, where he was served a warrant from the sex crimes he allegedly committed in Newport News.

Investigators say McLean inappropriately touched a 12-year-old female inside his home on Satterfield Drive. Neighbors tell WAVY.com they are shocked to hear about the allegations.

“I’m surprised and disgusted, because you never would have thought he would do something like that,” said neighbor Joe Millwood.

“He’s always been to himself and not really hanging out with anybody,” said Rachel Hancock. “Just hearing this is really scary. It’s horrible.”

Court papers say McLean and the 12-year-old girl slept in the same bed, and McLean allegedly put his hands on the girl’s private parts as she slept. McLean is also accused of putting the girl’s hands down his pants.

The investigation began January 13 when the Newport News Special Victims Unit received a call from Child Protective Services. They referred the case of the girl who said she had been molested by McLean between January 2013 and January 2015.

McLean is charged with five counts of aggravated sexual battery and five counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor while in his custody.

He is being held in the Newport News City Jail with no bond. McLean will be arraigned August 3.
