Driver rescued after trapped by live wires

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a driver suffered minor injuries after crashing into a power pole on Indian River Road Thursday morning and becoming trapped inside by live power lines.

Officer Ravi Sheth with Chesapeake Police tells WAVY.com crews responded to the single-vehicle accident near the old Ford plant on Indian River Road around 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

Sheth said there were live power lines between rescue crews and the car. The car and the driver have since been removed from the scene. The driver was not transported to the hospital.

The crash also caused a power outage in the area which is affecting 311 customers, according to Dominion Power’s outage map.

Traffic was initially being diverted from the area. Currently, two eastbound and one westbound lane are now open to traffic.

As of now, police say, no charges are pending.
