Norfolk Naval Shipyard work hours adjusted for summer

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Naval Shipyard issued a release Wednesday to inform personnel of adjusted work hours in an effort to avoid the extreme mid-summer heat and keep employees safe.

Approximately 5,000 employees are now working a modified shift from 6:20 a.m. to 3 p.m., which has increased early morning traffic congestion at the gates, according to the release.

The updated NNSY gate hours, effective Thursday, are listed below. The release notes to minimize traffic impact near the Port Centre Parkway parking lot, the hours at Gate 10B have been extended and it will now be open 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. for inbound traffic.

Gate Hours:
Main Gate  – Gate 15 (Portsmouth Blvd. and Effingham St.)
The Pass and ID Office is located near this gate.

Gate 3 (Lincoln Street)
Monday – Friday
Inbound – 5 a.m. – 8 a.m.; Outbound 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Gate 10 (Port Centre Parkway and Portsmouth Blvd.)
Monday – Friday
Inbound/Outbound – 4:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday Inbound – 5 a.m. – 8 a.m.

NNSY said employees should plan accordingly to accomodate rush hour congestion near the shipyard.
