Another Portsmouth department head resigns

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Dennis Bagley, Portsmouth’s General Services Director, resigned Tuesday.

The city confirmed to WAVY.com Public Utilities Director Bryan Foster has been appointed acting Director of General Services, but he will also continue to serve in his current role. A reason for Bagley’s resignation has not been disclosed.

Bagley is the sixth department head to leave Portsmouth since this spring. In April, city council members fired City Attorney George Wilson and voted to move up the resignation of Interim City Manager John Rowe. Days later, Police Chief Edward Hargis announced his retirement and the city finance director resigned.

Then, in June, Portsmouth’s director of economic development, Chuck Rigney, announced he was leaving to work in Norfolk.
