NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A verbal fight led to a carjacking and abduction in Newport News, according to police, and now a 35-year-old woman is facing a long list of charges.
Police were called out to 30th Street and Wickham Avenue around 6:30 p.m. The victim was there and told officers he was driving his 2-year-old son to a child’s birthday party. His acquaintance, Chesia Killins, was also in the car. He and Killins started to argue and he told her to get out of the car. She refused, so he told police he stopped the car and walked around to the passenger side to remove her. That’s when he says Killins moved over to the driver’s seat and took off, with his son in tow.
Police located the victim’s car in the 600 block of 30th Street, but there was no one inside. A short time later, police say the suspect and child pulled up in a different car with another woman driving. Investigators determined the driver had no idea what had just occurred.
The child was unharmed and was reunited with his father.
Killins was charged with abduction, grand larceny of a vehicle, felony child neglect, misdemeanor assault, public intoxication and petit larceny.
