Hampton customer accuses Henry’s Asphalt of shoddy pavement job

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton business owner called 10 On Your Side because he says he didn’t know where else to turn, when the pavement he had just paid for started cracking.

Kenny Wilson owns Beaumont Used Tires along Mercury Boulevard. Recently, he hired Henry’s Asphalt in Gloucester County to repave his parking lot. He paid $15,000, and a month ago crews put the black top down.

“We’re paying this out of pocket with no money coming in. It’s hard,” Wilson said.

Shortly after the work was done, Wilson said he started noticing problems with the pavement. There were places where the asphalt is soft. Cracks have formed, and there are spots where the grass is growing through.

There are also area where cracks have formed and spots where the grass is growing through.

“It’s a poor job. They did a real poor job. It’s not fair. It’s not right,” Wilson said.

To make matters worse, Wilson hasn’t been able to get in contact with Henry’s Asphalt to file a complaint. “I’ve tried calling them at this business number, and you can’t get an answer,” Wilson said.

10 On Your Side was able to get in touch with Henry Williams, who owns Henry’s Asphalt. He said it usually takes three months for the asphalt to harden, and said he stands by the work. 10 On Your Side checked with several other paving companies, who all say asphalt only takes a matter of hours to harden.

Williams did tell 10 On Your Side his crews plan to go back out to Wilson’s business Monday morning to make things right.

“I want to see it fixed or I want some of my money back,” Wilson said.

10 On Your Side did some digging and learned Henry’s Asphalt does not have a business license in Hampton or Gloucester. The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation told us the business doesn’t have a state contractors license either, which it is required to have.
