NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News detectives say an anonymous Crime Line tip helped them catch a rape suspect on Tuesday.

Police and U.S. marshals arrested 27-year-old Jim Allen Johnson at his girlfriend’s apartment in the 11100 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Johnson was accused in a sexual assault case late last month and was wanted by police for rape, abduction and strangulation charges.

“This is another perfect example of what can be accomplished when the community, the media and law enforcement work as a team utilizing the extremely successful Crime Line program,” said NNPD spokesman Lou Thurston.

Johnson is being held at Newport News City Jail.
