SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk police say a two-vehicle crash along Route 58 West ended in a fatality Thursday evening.

Around 4:45 p.m., a Dodge van and Honda sedan both traveled off the roadway, to the left, and crashed into trees in the median, Suffolk police spokeswoman Diana Klink said. The scene was in the 1900 block of westbound Portsmouth Boulevard (Route 58), just past the weigh scales.

The woman driving the van was ground transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Klink said the Honda was severely damaged, and the driver, 19-year-old Calnesha Brown, died at the scene.

Norfolk State University confirmed Brown was a sophomore majoring in business/entrepreneurship. She was also a student volunteer for New Student Orientation.

A celebration of life service for Brown will be held at 11 a.m. on July 2 at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries Church on County Street in Suffolk.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
