Newport News opens curfew center

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A place to hold curfew violators is now open in Newport News.

The curfew center opened earlier this month on Washington Avenue. Newport News police say several law enforcement officials — including police officers and sheriff’s deputies — work there.

The city said it opened the center to help enforce the more strict curfew rules.

Those younger than 18 must be inside by 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and by 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
