Hundreds without power after overnight storms

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — There were several power outages reported throughout Hampton Roads after severe weather overnight.

On Wednesday morning, Dominion said about 3,500 customers were without power.

The biggest culprit was the lightning. Dominion said that was one of the biggest problems, particularly in Suffolk. All customers in that area had power restored in less than three hours.

In Newport News, a tree fell on a line on James River Drive, bringing a wire down between Warwick Boulevard and Botetourt Road, around 2 a.m. That knocked out power to 275 customers.

Dominion estimates the Southside will get all power back by Wednesday afternoon. On the Peninsula, it won’t be until later Wednesday evening, no later than 9 p.m., according to Dominion.
