HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton crews battled heavy flames and smoke at a house on Lexington Street Tuesday night.
Chief Pereira, with the Hampton Fire Division, said firefighters were called to the home just before 9 p.m. Once they got there, it only took about 20 minutes to get the flames under control.
All residents were accounted for and none were displaced. There were no injuries, Pereira said.
Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by improperly discarded smoking material.
Crews too extra measures to stay hydrated, due to the extreme heat Tuesday.
