SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk police say a two-vehicle crash Monday downed power lines and sent two men to local hospitals.

The crash happened around 4:10 p.m. in the 900 block of Carolina Road, near the intersection with Turlington Road, according to Suffolk City spokeswoman. It involved a U.S. Postal Service truck and an empty tanker truck.

Klink said a power pole and power lines fell in the roadway, which caused part of Carolina Road to be completely shut down. Now, only one northbound lane is closed.

The closure will last until Dominion Virginia Power crews can safely clear the roadway.

The man driving the USPS truck was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were considered not life-threatening. The other driver was ground transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
