Original Story from June of 2015:

PERQUIMANS COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Investigators in Perquimans County are looking for a missing woman. Deputies said 39-year-old Karen Bosta was reported missing the first week of June by her mother.

According to investigators, Bosta left Perquimans and went to a Walgreens Pharmacy in Edenton on May 30. That was the last time she was seen. Her family is now offering a $2,500 cash reward for information about Bosta’s location.

Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley said Bosta’s mother called and texted her and got one reply, but then didn’t hear from her.

“My gut feeling is, yeah, there’s something wrong,” Tilley said.

Tilley said investigators started subpoenaing phone records, trying to ping her phone to see if it was still on.

“We got some locations in Edenton, behind a Dairy Queen. We went to Edenton [Tuesday, June 11,] and actually checked those out with the Edenton Police Department. Nothing came of that. We’ve done a canvass of the neighborhood, just asking did anybody know her, seen her, seen the car,” Tilley said.

Tilley said Edenton police found Bosta’s car parked in a lot off Broad Street Monday night.

“Nothing unusual about the car. The car was parked in a parking space, locked up, keys gone,” Tilley said.

He said calls to Bosta’s phone go straight to voicemail and that a relative last saw her at the Edenton Walgreens on May 30.

Referring to surveillance video from the store, Tilley said, “It just shows her walking in by herself. Nobody else with her. It shows her walking in the front door by herself just as a normal customer. She didn’t look distraught, didn’t look like she was in any problem. Nobody forcing her to do anything.”

Tilley said money that went into Bosta’s bank account on June 1 has gone untouched. He said she might be in a relationship with an Edenton man, but investigators don’t know who he is.

“At this point, there’s no evidence showing one way or another. We don’t know if she’s in trouble or if she left with somebody on a trip … we just don’t know … Her day-to-day routine just completely stopped, and that’s alarming to law enforcement. That shows a signal that something’s happened. What? We don’t know,” Tilley said.

Bosta’s mother told WAVY News she has never been missing for this long. She said Bosta takes medication that gives severe side effects if she stops taking it.

Bosta is said to be 5’3″ tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She has brown curly hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, white shorts and slip-on shoes.

Anyone with any information about Karen’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 426-5615.
