NAGS HEAD, N.C (WAVY) — Police say a 14-year-old Manteo boy was critically injured after he was hit by a pickup truck, early Wednesday morning.

Officials say the boy and two 14-year-old females were walking westbound along South Virginia Dare Trail, around 4:52 a.m. when he was struck. The teens were walking on the outside travel lanes, according to police. The two females were not hit.

The boy was treated by Dare County EMS for critical injuries and flown by Dare Med Flight to a hospital in Norfolk. His current condition is unknown.

Police say neither alcohol nor speed was a factor in this incident. No one has been charged.
