HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A team of health experts toured the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Thursday, to figure out a way to improve wait times for patients.
The Hampton facility has one of the longest average wait times in the country, and Sen. Mark Warner is upset about it. He’s been putting pressure on the medical center to improve, and that’s why he brought in a team of four experts.
Hospital officials would not allow WAVY.com to cover Thursday’s visit, so we got information from Sen. Warner’s office.
Three of the experts are from the VA medical center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, which is one of the country’s best for primary care. The team is expected to interview patients and staff, then give their advice on how the Hampton facility can improve. The goal is to get wait times for veterans down to 30 days or less, on a consistent basis.
