Crash causes fuel spill on Route 58 in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Officials have reopened Route 58 after a pickup truck crashed into a tractor-trailer and caused a diesel fuel spill, Thursday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the scene near Portsmouth Boulevard/Route 58 Eastbound between Nansemond Parkway and the six lanes, around 4:29 a.m.

Investigators say the vehicles came to rest on opposite sides of the roadway. Police say the driver of the pickup sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Officials closed the middle lane of Route 58 while crews worked to clean up the fuel spill. The road has since reopened.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
