Aubrey Layne named 1st Citizen of Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne was named First Citizen of Virginia Beach Thursday night.

Layne received the honor at the Oceanfront Hilton. A graduate praised him for his work with Achievable Dream Academy and the impact he had on her life.

Governor Terry McAuliffe also attended the event and praised Layne for what he’s done with the Rt. 460 Improvement Project, I-264 improvements, and paying down the tolls.

Layne was also named King Neptune in 2012. He’s also vice-chairman of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
