VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say three men fled from a traffic stop late Tuesday night, but were eventually taken into custody.
The incident started around 10:20 p.m. near the intersection of 24th Street and Birdneck Road. That’s where an officer tried to pull over a vehicle. Police say the car took off, but the officer never followed the vehicle.
At one point, the vehicle crashed and three men jumped out and ran.
Around 11:30 p.m., VBPD spokesman Adam Bernstein said police had taken two suspects into custody and were searching for a possible third suspect.
One of the suspects taken into custody was arrested with the use of a police dog. Bernstein said the K-9 bit the suspect, causing a minor bite wound.
Police caught and arrested the third suspect around 1 a.m. Wednesday near 24th street and Piney Branch Court. All three men are being held at the city jail.
Officers say at least two of the men arrested were wanted for outstanding warrants. According to Bernstein, the license plates on their vehicle belonged to a different vehicle. Police confirmed to WAVY.com Wednesday morning that the car was not stolen and it was registered to one of the suspects.
No further information has been released.
