NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — One person is dead after a fiery crash on I-64 near Ocean View Tuesday night.

Virginia State Police say 29-year-old Marcus Logan was traveling eastbound on I-64 when he came to a curve in the road, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, just east of 4th View around 8:45 p.m.

The impact of the crash caused the 2006 Lincoln Town Car to catch on fire. Police say witnesses tried to remove Logan from the car but were unsuccessful.

WAVY traffic cameras showed the scene along I-64 East, near mile marker 274, with state police vehicles and other first responders.

Investigators say weather and speed played a factor in the crash. It remains unclear if alcohol played a factor and if a safety belt was in use at the time of the crash.

The crash caused a two mile back up while crews worked to clear the scene. The crash was cleared shortly before 2 a.m.
