Driver leads police on chase, crashes into trooper’s vehicle

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police arrested a driver they say fled a traffic stop and crashed into a Jersey wall before striking a trooper’s vehicle, early Tuesday morning.

According to Virginia State Police, a trooper attempted to stop the car for speeding and possible DUI, near westbound Interstate 264 at Newtown Road, at 3:55 a.m.

Police say the driver did not stop and a pursuit ensued. The chase came to an end on I-264 near Waterside Drive when the driver allegedly struck the trooper’s vehicle and then struck a jersey wall.

The driver, 35-year-old Crystal Lynn Jones, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for minor injuries. The trooper was not injured.

Jones was charged with DUI, speeding, eluding, driving while suspended, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, felony state property damage and possession of schedule I narcotics.
