NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — For over a year, a local family has fought to clean out a waterway near the Campostella Bridge. Now, they’ve taken a major step toward finally getting something done.
This week, a federal lawsuit was filed to force the owner of several vessels to remove them from an inlet off the Elizabeth River.
10 On Your Side first told you about this story in 2013. Since then, the owner has moved some of the vessels clogging the channel, but still, more than half of the waterway is full. Some of the ships there are more than 200 feet long.
Neighboring property owners say all the ships create an eyesore and blight, pollute the river, cause environmental damage and make it difficult for them to lease space.
