PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) — The effort to recall Portsmouth Mayor Kenny Wright is picking up steam.
A small group gathered at a local book store Wednesday morning to put the finishing touches on petitions that will circulate in the city. The group hopes to gather 9,000 signatures.
Members of the group said they are tired of increasing taxes, shrinking budgets and poor leadership.
“The people that are the most productive in the city, the most invested, the homeowners, the people who have decided to have businesses here, are the ones who are suffering the most,” said Tidewater Tea Party Alliance Chairman Nelson Velez.
10 On Your Side asked Mayor Wright comment on the recall effort.
“A large majority of our citizens are pleased with the progress that we’ve made [over the last five years], and want to continue in this direction,” Wright said. “My focus will always be on the greater good of our city!”
