2nd suspect charged after Va. Beach robbery, hostage situation

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The second suspect connected to Friday’s robbery and police-involved shooting in Virginia Beach was charged Monday.

Police haven’t identified him, because he’s a minor, but said he is older than 15 years old. Police served him juvenile petitions and detained him for two counts robbery, two counts use of a firearm in commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The first suspect, Louis Vazquez, is recovering in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. He was charged over the weekend for robbery, abduction, and  use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Police say the two men robbed two women on Wesleyan Drive, then held a hostage at Boost Mobile store on Newtown Road. Police say they let the hostage go, almost immediately, and ran, but Vazquez and an officer exchanged gunfire in an alley.

No officers were hurt.
