PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – No one was injured after a store on High Street was robbed Saturday evening.
Portsmouth police received a call at 8:40 p.m. that a man entered the Family Dollar on the 3100 block of High Street with a handgun and made his way toward the counter.
Across the store Family Dollar employee Kevon Sexton walked toward the front right around the same time.
“The dude that was robbing the store told me, ‘stop (expletive) moving,'” Sexton said. “At that point I just stopped in my tracks.”
“He said, ‘I’m not robbing ya’ll, I’m robbing Family Dollar.'”
Sexton said the man made his way around the counter to the register and held a gun to the cashier while she helped a customer.
“The register pops open so he’s already in the motion like just scooping everything,” Sexton said. “Then he said, ‘Ya’ll already know what time it is. Don’t nobody move.’ He was just stuffing the money, stuffing it in his pockets.”
Police report this as the 14th armed robbery since April 10.
