7 dumpster fires investigated in southeast Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News police and city fire marshal’s office are trying to find out who is setting dumpsters on fire.

In almost a month, firefighters have put out seven dumpster fires. The most recent one was just after midnight April 17 — firefighters found four dumpsters on fires near the Ridley Circle apartment complex near 16th Street.

The night before, firefighters extinguished two dumpster fires in the 1300 block of Roanoke Avenue and another one near 1140 Garden Drive.

Police are investigating the fires as arson. Right now, they don’t have any leads or suspects.
