Sneak peak: New voting machines in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — 10 On Your Side got a sneak peek of the new voting machines that are coming to Virginia Beach.

Brandi Cummings caught up with members of the registrar’s office Thursday morning.

Voters will fill out paper ballots, and then the digital machines will scan the ballots into the ballot box.

“I hope there are no challenges with this, to be honest with you. It’s a much simpler process, but it’s a change,” Virginia Beach Voter Registrar Donna Patterson. “I just want voters to be prepared on election day, to know that they’re going to come in and fill in a circle on a piece of paper. To some people, it seems like we’re going backwards, but that’s the way of voting now.”

The registrar will roll them out for the upcoming June primary election.
