1 dead, 1 wounded in Norfolk shooting

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – An early morning shooting in Norfolk on Mamie Boulevard left one man dead and a woman seriously injured.

According to a press release from Norfolk Police, officers responded to the 7000 block of Mamie Boulevard off Johnstons Road around 4 a.m. after receiving reports of a gunshot victim in the area. When they arrived on Mamie Blvd. they found a man and a woman who had been shot. The man was identified as 32-year-old Shakia D. Anderson.

Medics pronounced Anderson dead at the scene while the woman was taken to local hospital for treatment of what police say are serious injuries.

Neighbors told 10 On Your Side the neighborhood is usually quiet and calm. But the home where the shooting took place has been known to have late-night parties.

A neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said she woke up to multiple gun shots around four in the morning.

“I threw my child down on the floor and called 911 because I heard screams of death,” she said.

She said she ran outside and saw people scattering and cars driving off. There was a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The neighbor ran over to the man who was bleeding heavily in the road.

“I felt helpless like I couldn’t really help him,” she said. “When I was there he had a pulse on him. It was kind of fading, but I was just hoping for the best.”

No other details on the shooting have been released by police.
